Highlights of the 35th Annual Potomac Skye Terrier Club Specialty
Friday, April 17, 2009

On behalf of all of the members of the Potomac Skye Terrier Club I wanted to thank all who attended last weekend's specialty show in Timonium, Maryland. The entry for specialty was 30 Skyes which is the largest entry that this show has seen since the mid-1990's. There were exhibitors and attendees from: Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington, DC.

On Friday, after the specialty and the club's meeting, there was a special program organized by PSTC member Shirley Deasy. The program gave folks an opportunity to describe what they are doing with their Skyes in performance events and in the community as therapy dogs. The highlight of the demo was a freestyle dance routine by Shirley and her Skye "Emmee". Shirley and Emmee's performance brought a smile to everyone's face.

Also, at the club's meeting on Friday, we welcomed four new members.

On Saturday, the club offered its popular "Kiss the Skye" Booth and handed out literature on the breed. Business card-sized color
information cards ("You have just been introduced to a Skye Terrier") were created by the club and distributed during the weekend. In addition, club members were encouraged to take a supply of cards to carry with them when they are out and about with their Skyes.

During the four days of shows, three Skye Terriers earned their final points for their AKC Championship titles. Six highly coveted and increasingly scarce major wins were earned by six different Skyes. In the obedience ring, one Skye earned his second leg towards his CD title on Friday and a second Skye competed in Rally on Saturday.

Results from the Specialty on Friday were quickly posted to the Potomac club's Twitter page within 30 minutes of completion of the judging. The page will continue to be used for announcements and public education:

Our specialty planning committee is already making plans for next year.

Thank you again to all who attended - it was a wonderful Skye Weekend!
